The Lease Challenge
In general, Leasing is a low visibility function made up of a small group of centrally located or geographically distributed lease administrators who manage a wide range of high-value equipment and real estate leases. In most companies, there is often little governance, control or automated processes. This is especially true for IT, fleet, and equipment lease management functions.
Most companies, by default, have taken the “book it and forget it” approach for managing leases. That will end since the new lease standards (ASC 842 & IFRS 16) require all leases to be displayed prominently on a company’s balance sheet.
